Meet The Artist

Born in London and now based in Southern California, Kate Ryan is a multidisciplinary artist whose early creative explorations included drawing, sewing, and constructing imaginative worlds from scraps and stories. Encouraged by her parents and inspired by her mother’s love of interiors and textiles, she developed a deep connection to color, form, and handmade expression.

Her background spans fine art, textiles, and curatorial work, with a passion for helping others connect to creativity in meaningful ways. Whether through painting, teaching, or consulting, Kate’s work invites curiosity, play, and thoughtful attention to the beauty of everyday life.

Artist Philosophy

Kate Ryan approaches art as a form of deep noticing—a way to remain present, explore the unseen, and create meaning from fragments. Her practice is grounded in intuition and play, deeply influenced by a lifelong relationship with textiles, color, and sensory experience. She is drawn to the meditative rhythm of mark-making and embraces the freedom of allowing a painting to unfold without the need for explanation.

In both her personal work and her teaching, Kate emphasizes cultivating trust—in one’s instincts, in valuing process over outcome, and in the power of creative decision-making. She views abstraction as a form of emotional mapping and is intrigued by the spaces between representation and feeling, memory and material.

For the artist, creating art is a way to foster connection—to herself, to others, and to something greater. She believes that creative work is not simply a practice, but a way of being in the world.
